As you approach the tiny island of Kandolhu by speedboat from Malé, you’re presented with an idyllic vision of the classic Maldive hideaway.

The wooden jetty reaches past the island’s colourful coral reefs into turquoise waters, framed by sugary curves of a white sand beach. Lush green palms clamber into the cerulean sky from the heart of the island. Just thirty villas nestle along the tropical beachfront or perch over the tranquil blue waters on wooden stilts.

Despite its diminutive size, guests at Kandolhu can choose from five restaurants, each offering an intimate setting for sophisticated dining. Kandolhu also offers guests access to the gym and spa treatments, but you’ll probably spend most of your time swimming; snorkelling and diving in the waters that encircle the island.

Explore the colourful reef and you might find yourself swimming alongside turtles or rays. If you’re new to diving, Kandolhu offers PADI-certified courses; more experienced divers will want to explore the numerous local dive sites just a short boat trip away.
